Sparkle Birthday

Man, I'm always disappointed with how this Bazzill paper shoots in the evening :-/ *updated photo 01 aug* And the words look better too because it's more clear that the "happy" is layered over the "birthday"... hehe, no I didn't do it backwards :P Anyways, this is a few challenges rolled into one-

Baby Shower Guestbook inside

I'll eventually combine this post with the one below, but for now I just wanted to highlight the pages of the notebook I altered to be the guestbook at my friend's grey & yellow Elephant Alphabet baby shower I'm hosting. They don't know the gender, hence the neutral theme/colors :) I did the cover two days ago, and I finally got to make most o the inside pages today. All of the pages are similar, with various papers, tags, and embellies.

VLV July Champion

OH MY JEEPERS CREEPERS!!! I actually won Viva La Verve July!!! Oh my goodness, I can't tell you how giddy I am! :D I ran out and jumped on hubby's lap and told him all about it :D He just laughed at me and told me he's glad I'm happy :) It's totally unexpected too! I had really bad lighting for half of my photos, I entered like an hr n half hour before the deadline, and after I was done I went and looked at the other entries and though Nooo way, theirs are so much better! Wow! I'm really honored and humbled :) Here's a better photo {taken this morning} of the cards I entered. Oh! and the best part is that now I'll be receiving my first set of Verve stamps!!! I looove their stuff, but my crafting spending is limited to one splurge a month, so I've been slow on building my stamp collection. I have a running list of alll the wonderful stamp companies and stuff I would love to purchase one day, hehe, but at this rate {and as it keeps growing!} it'll take me a lifetime to get them all! But I'm kinda ok with that, hehe ;) This weekend I'm hoping to finalllly open my Etsy shop, and you know they're gonna be on there! :) Hehe, thanks for letting me gush :)

*below photos posted 3 August*

Some goooorgeous Rich Razzleberry & card from Stacey's Stamping Stage {Jewelry Inspiration Color Challenge #45- random winner}. Pix doesn't do the color justice!

Some wonderful goodies won over at Papercrafts' blog. They're always giving away something! So sweet :)

Starry Night Birthday

This is the third card of the day... other two are posted on Simply Scrapping. Inspired by the EtsyInspired #46 post for the week. The photo they have up from the Artistic Flair shop reminded me of Starry Starry Night. I took the colors from the photo and put them with the Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge #75 sketch. "Y"ellow is also the name of the game at ABC challenge this week. Paper Popsicles challenge #11 is to start a sentiment outside and finish it inside- which worked perfectly since I needed a small sentiment to fit under the bow!

{materials} DP: SU!, DCWV, ink: stampcraft black, Martha Stewart ocean, stamp: SU!, studio g, gems: K&Co, Recollections, ribbon: all the cards inc,

more shower-y things

This is the cover of the guestbook for the baby shower. It's a guestbook / advice book- where guests can either leave a kind word for momma and baby or advice for the new mom {if they themselves are mothers or they got some great advice from their parents that they'd like to pass on!}. Updated photos and added details

I started with the background paper, because I specifically bought this K&Co pad for the grey and yellow papers it had in the set {it's called the WB Gypsy Baby Paper Pad}. I had also bought the sentiment specifically for the guestbook I knew I'd be making. I fell in love with the Travel Frames set a while ago, and thanks to a Michaels discount coupon, I finally bought them! Loving them already. I decided to use two of them on a tag that i wanted to attach to the front to document the date and time of the shower. This elephant tag from a K&Co tag set was perfect to go with the shower's elephant theme! I decided to tie the tag to the ribbon binding, so after placing the tag, I then placed the sentiment accordingly. I had some free space and knew I wanted something there but nothing overpowering. So I had some new Memento dew drops, one in a deep yellow, paired with the heidi grace baby stamp set and it worked like a charm! The sentiment is really perfect, because not only will this baby be loved by her parents of course, but the shower is for her InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and church friends so we will all love this baby as a child of Christ, and also my DH and I are best friends with the momma and daddy so we'll of course always love this baby like our niece/nephew :)

{materials} book: dollar bin at Target, sentiment: me & my big ideas, ribbons: Michaels dashes dots & checks, sheer creations, tag: K&Co, stamps: Hero Arts, heidi grace, Inks: stampology smoky quartz, memento cantaloupe, Staedtler, gelly roll, gem: K&Co

it's a baby shower!

so I'm planning a baby shower for my close friend... and here are the items I've made thus far! {more to come} the colors are grey and yellow with a touch of white and green to go with the theme "Elephant Alphabet." They don't know the gender, so it had to be gender neutral! But there are a ton of cute themes/color schemes these days :) The original inspiration for the theme and colors is from: stem *fabulous parties start here*/head of the table. LOVE the sites! I'll also update the details tomorrow, but the sick/recovering hubby's getting impatient to watch a movie ;)

DH update

just a quick update...
THANK YOU to those of you who have sent your thoughts and prayers. DH is home now and safe though a little sore {go figure, hehe}. Your concern and prayer mean so much! We're taking the weekend to go visit his parents, so they can see he's fine as well hehe. Hubby also gets *hopefully* 30 days convalescent leave to rest up and heal up, so we'll see how much crafting I get done with him as a handsome distraction ;)

taking a break

Quick update, I'll be likely taking a break or at best only posting lightly over the next few days. Hubby is still down south for Army training, and he's now in the hospital with appendicitis. It's always my worst fear that something will happen when he's away, and I can't be there with him :-/ Luckily I'm at my parents' house so I have other people around to keep me preoccupied and not dwell on something happening to him. I might work on some baby shower stuff I'm working on for a friend, to keep me preoccupied, and if so then I'll try and post photos. This is one of those especially important FROG times {fully rely on God}. I don't have that overwhelming gut-wrenching fear that something's going to go wrong, but I'll still be more at ease when he's home. We don't know when his surgery is yet, but if it's tomorrow I'll hopefully be flying down to be with him. Your prayers are really appreciated :)
God is good-
Shauna

UPDATE: he's out of surgery and recovering well. Praise God!

Birthday Blooms n Butterflies

Ok, so two things...
1- when I saw Dawn's Raspberry Suite color challenge #12, I was a lil wary, I was like "mmm i dunno how i feel about these together..." end result = love them!
2- i have been secretly longly for the Martha Stewart butterfly punch... well thanks to Michael's 20% off coupon, I have finally invested!
The sketch was from this week's Sweet Stop {SSS13}, even though I didn't use the "Christmas" theme {I don't like making cards until after Thanksgiving... Thanksgiving is way too often skipped over and it's my fav holiday! ironic since I'm a vegetarian... but I love getting to see both my parents' extended sides of the family}

materials: {paper} pink- DCWV, flower- me & my big idea, flower- The Paper Company, others from stash {brads} makingmemories, {raffia} kraft, {stamp} SU!, {ink} stampcraft coffee, {other} Martha Stewart punch, button from stash

Blueberry Tag

MMM.... blueberries! This was one of three big bowls brimming with freshly picked berries at my parents' house. I cannot wait until DH and I are able to have a yard with gardens to grow yummy stuff like this! So this was the inspiration behind my tag. I get to bring a bowl of berries back with me when my hubby's home, so this is the tag I'll attach when I give them to him! I'm on my way out the door to Michael's, so I'm gonna quickly list of the challenges below!

Flourishes Timeless Tues {FTTC24 }- tag
CPS {CPS125}- sketch
TPE #23- colors {light & dark blues + red}

Simon Says #12- summer fruits {blueberries, of course!}
Creative Inspirations #17- stitching {hand stitched blueberry tops}

Butterfly Project

Have you heard about the Butterfly Project? I found out about it through {this post} at Craft Critique. This shows most of the 100 that I cut out this evening using the CB butterfly die. I'll be adding on gem stones then mailing them out later in the week. To get involved, please visit the Craft Critique post linked above.
An excerpt from the Craft Critique site about the project:
"More than 1,500,000 innocent children were murdered during the Holocaust. In an effort to remember them, the Holocaust Museum of Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies. The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath-taking exhibition, currently scheduled for Spring 2012, for all to remember."

Finding an elephant

Hey, so quick question ya'll.... anyone know of a really cute elephant stamp? I'm throwing my friend's baby shower with an elephant alphabet theme and need a cute baby-ish elephant. I found this elephant {here} and love it, so I'd love a stamp that's really similar. Any advice??

Flutterby Blooms

Here's my card for Cupcake Craft #48 - butterflies & blooms. The me & my big idea paper was perfect with it's circular blooms, and I used the CB butterfly die to cut out the SU! paper. Dutch Dare #56 calls for dies and lili of the valley #32 is animals. I just ordered my first lili of the valley stamps- they have super cute stuff! The sketch is 2Sketches4You bonus sketch by Kim! I'm going to send this to a special set of friends of mine- they're friendship is such an incredible blessing in the lives of DH and me.

Hodgepog Hedgehog

Hehe, this is a fun card- i love the lil hedgehog! The colors are from Color Chef #14 and the sketch is 2Sketches4You Laura's sketch #30. I'm stowing this one away for when hubby's deployed.

{Materials} designer paper: colorbök, ribbon: michaels dashes dots & checks, gems: Michaels, brads: recollections, sentiment: cutting café**

**NOTE: I won {this set} from super sweet Carol at Crazy for Crafting! They're from super sweet Regina's The Cutting Café. Take a wander over to both blogs, you won't be sorry!

Bowed Flowers

Sorry for the poor-ish lighting, it's getting late in the day here and I'm losing sunlight! I'll retake photo tomorrow. This uses a sketch from Sweet Sunday #26 and colors from Jewelry Color Inspiration #45. I don't think I quite have the razzleberry- I think it's somewhere in between the floss on the end flowers, so I got as close as I could! :) When I finish up the inside, I'll also enter it in cuttlebug spot #39- inside counts! EDIT: second photo now up of the inside. To me it feels very elegant, and with the bling on top, I also entered Die Cut Dreams #5 - glamour & glitz! Oh yes, and this is being linked up with the Copics candy at Crafty Goings On!

{Materials} floss: DCW, stamps: SU!, paper from stash, gems: Recollections, K&Co, Colored Pencils: Crayola, CB fancy corners folder

Show Us Your SheetLoad & Caardvarks

Sorry for the quick post, on my way out the door! This card is the caardvarks sketch, which is also the SheetLoad sketch. It uses Color Inspiration #56 and paper piecing from 365 and the circle shapes for Stamp with Fun #15 and pearls for Creative Inspirations #16.

{Materials} designer paper: SU!, DCWV, pearls: Recollections, buttons from stash, ink: stampcraft black, stamp: SU!, colored pencils: crayola, nestabilities, ribbon: michaels

Cupcake en green

This lil cupcake guy was totally inspired by the etsy shop Verbena Custom Blends. Gorgeous! This is for Etsy Inspired #44 and Color Throwdown #51.

Oh! and the sketch is CardPatterns #26 bonus sketch!
{Materials} designer papers: me & my big ideas (purple), SU! (green), ribbon: michaels classic traditions, ink: stampcraft brown, nestabilities

"TypePad"

soooo... i really liked the look of typepad {ie. Dawn McVey's My Favorite Things and Nichole Heady's capture the moment) but I didn't want to switch everything over. Sooo I did a lil Photoshopping and a lil editing HTML and voila! My blog is redone (again!). It's not exactly like TypePad, but I'm pretty pleased. Thoughts? :)

CHA Swimsuits

Wow... this is hysterical!!! So I was over on the Cosmo Cricket blog, and they're talking about CHA... CHA... in Florida... Florida with pools and beaches... pools which means swimsuits. Holy cow, there is an amazing hysterical email on this post that recounts the woes of bathing suit shopping... it's totally worth it to check out This Post at Cosmo Cricket. A quick excerpt:

The mature woman has a choice-she can either go up front to the maternity department and try on a floral suit with a skirt, coming away looking like a hippopotamus who escaped from Disney's Fantasia... The first thing I noticed was the extraordinary tensile strength of the stretch material. The Lycra used in bathing costumes was developed, I believe, by NASA to launch small rockets from a slingshot... Eventually, I found one boob cowering under my left armpit. It took a while to find the other. At last I located it flattened beside my seventh rib... I struggled into a pair of leopard skin bathers with ragged frills and came out looking like Tarzan's Jane, pregnant with triplets and having a rough day... When I got home, I found a label which read -- Material might become transparent in water.'

Cocoa Fresh Flutterbies

** Edit: new photo 17-July **
This card was using The Fresh Batch #23 sketch. The butterflies were intentionally stamped a few times to give them a softer feel... not sure how I'm feeling bout the end result... might redo the circles actually- they're takin up too much room on the card me thinks... and you can tell I'm tired because my circles aren't quite lines up hehe. Anyways, again, still at my parents' and there's no good evening lighting so I'll reshoot photos tomorrow!

{Materials} Paper: me & my big idea, SU!, my stash, stamp: K&co, ink: martha stewart, ribbon: dashes dots & checks

Green's So Sweet

** Edit: new photo 17-July **

This is for Colour Create #22 {colors: light & dark green, light & dark yellow, white} and using Midnight Madness Week #9 {MMSC9} sketch. Again, visiting my parents currently and there's no good lighting here in the evenings.. I'll get better photos tomorrow, sorries!!

{Materials} Papers: DCWV, SU!, my stash, Brads: makingmemories, ribbon: Offray, stamps: studio g, ink: stampcraft brown

Woodland Creatures

** Edit: new photo 17-July **

This lil card is for CB Be Inspired #39, and don't forget they're counting down to CHA! Enter each week's Be Inspired and you're entered to win ALL of the new folders! I apologize for the poor photos- I'm at my parents' house whilst my hubby is away training and at night there's no good lighting around :/ I'll get up some better photos tomorrow!

{Materials} Papers: Colorbök, SU!, my stash, nestabilities, cloud 9 design letters, CB dots & spots folder

Operation Shower

Ok, so I don't really usually ever post here about non-crafty things, but there's a first for everything. I'm planning a shower for my dear friend and ran across this site: Operation Shower. It's an organization that helps throw showers for expecting military mothers. This is a really neat cause since often times mothers may have just arrived at a new post and don't know many people yet or their husbands are currently deployed. My father-in-law was deployed mere hours after my husband's birth. So check out their website, and support if you're able. Military families will be so blessed by you :) There's also many companies that support Operation Shower, so next time you're shopping for baby supplies, check out the companies that support our troops and their families :)

Adore BnW & Thanks Soldier

Thanks Soldier

For the Patriotic challenge at 2RedBananas. It's a Thank You card for my Army soldier husband. He gets all shy and humble when I thank him for his service. Take my word for it, if you ever just go up to a random Veteran (in the supermarket, airport, any where you see one) they will be very humbled by it because not enough people do say thank you. So thank a veteran the next time you see one, they'll really appreciate it. This sketch is Kazan's Sketch 30 at 2Sketches4You, and used stripes and strips of ribbon for TPE #22. The color scheme is working from SCS IC188.
Recipe- papers from stash, CB swiss dots, Offray ribbon, K&Co stars, makingmemories brads, The Paper Company vellum

Adore BnW

This is the Bonus Sketch from Latisha at 2Sketches4You. It is using the Black and White colors from Cupcake Craft Challenge #47.
Recipe- DCWV rose paper, Studio G stamp, stampcraft black ink, nestabilities, Recollections gems
